Cabiria Popular With Churches -- January 17, 2015

Giovanni Pastrone's Italian feature Cabiria was a popular spectacle which influenced filmmakers all over the world, including DW Griffith. It was set during the Second Punic War.

It ran for "7 Months on Broadway, New York City" and "10 Weeks in San Francisco."

This article mentions that the movie was popular with churches and religious societies and gave the example of Saint Vincent (Saint Vincent de Paul parish in Lincoln Park?) in Chicago, which had a benefit performance, accompanied by the church choir and a large orchestra.
